Digital healthcare trends in the Middle East

Globally there are many technologies and developments happening on a daily basis. The Middle East, a fast growing region in itself is trying to adapt these changes in the sectors or industries wherever necessary. We can evidently see these changes especially in the health care sector of the Middle East. Health care in this region is a well-structured and planned industry that of late has incorporated digitalization in its day-to-day activities. According to a survey conducted by Economist Intelligence Unit, across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, states that “A future of healthcare that is increasingly preventative, personalized, and precise.” This implies that apart from the ongoing changes made to the healthcare industry, there are a few dramatic changes that might impact the UAE. The following are some of the key trends, determining the future of the Middle East.

  1. Preventive measures:

In the Gulf region, there is a dynamic change in the lifestyle, which has brought about many sedentary lifestyle diseases in the population. They are Non-Communicable Diseases like diabetes, cancer, respiratory issues, cardiovascular diseases, and so on. According to some health care channels, they report that, these changes in the lifestyle are accounted for the majority of the deaths in UAE. Health being on the edge this has driven the medical service units to start preventative health measures. These measures comprise of a wide range of facilities right from conducting wellness programs to educating people on imbibing the right lifestyle. The medical insurers or the medical care providers ensure the customers not only follow the wellness programs but also adhere to the medical rules.

  1. Personalization on the rise

A study from Rand Health Advisory Services indicates that six countries in the Middle East – Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, and Oman – have the highest prevalence of diabetes in the world. With the rising alarm to contain these sedentary diseases, there are many paths opening in the region to innovate and introduce new health care systems in the market. One of these is the shift toward the personalization of health care. Personalization is one the rise as it provides a convenient approach and information related to each individual.

As per the healthcare market in Dubai, a new tool called Healthigo is introduced and is trending well with the people. The tool allows the customers/users to book appointments, managing individual and family’s health care records, receive health-related alerts, reminders, and many more. Similar kinds of innovations and developments are growing in the region.

  1. AI and Big data – the new technology

Artificial Intelligence and Big Data are some of the key trends happening on a larger scale in the Middle East. Adoption of this technology in the healthcare intend better diagnoses of the conditions, lesser medication errors, optimization of hospital staff, and many more. Big data gives adept, actionable solutions in real-time.

  1. Internet of Things (IoT)

Apart from smartphones, there are many internet-connected devices available in the market. The concept of the Internet of Things has helped the gadgets and other applications interlinked making interactivity powerful.

Apart from these four healthcare trends prevailing in the Middle East, the region is looking forward to developing tools, gadgets, applications, anything that helps in efficient services for patients.
